Job Announcement: Forestry Technician


Duties/Description: Assist in conducting Riparian Buffer Effectiveness Surveys in Western Washington. Position will be mostly field-based. Work conditions are often strenuous and require traversing steep forested terrain in all weather conditions. Map reading, aerial photo interpretation and orienteering skills will be used on a daily basis. Positions are based out of Tumwater, WA but four-day, overnight travel weeks will be required and frequent. Company vehicles are provided for travel and lodging and meal costs are paid while away from the Tumwater operations base.

Qualifications: The successful applicant will have a degree in forestry or be actively seeking a degree. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to follow strict sampling protocols and be proficient in the collection of scientific data. Native tree identification, classifying downed wood, recognizing stream morphology, map reading skills, accurate interpretation of aerial photography and orienteering skills are required. Prior professional experience in the field of forestry is highly desirable.

Salary: $12.50 - $17.50 per hour plus overtime, depending on experience.

Duration: Approximately 7 months (March 19 - October 31, 2019), depending on project duration.
