Natural Resource Technician - Multiple crew lead and crew member positions available
Duties/Description: Assist in conducting fish distribution surveys in headwater streams and wildlife sampling in Washington and Oregon. Position will be mostly field-based, meaning that work conditions can be strenuous and require the traversing of steep forested terrain in all weather conditions with a 40 pound backpack. Map reading, interpreting aerial photography and orienteering will be used on a daily basis. Positions are based out of Olympia, WA but overnight travel will be required. Company vehicles are provided for travel and lodging and meal costs are paid while away from the Olympia base station.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have a college degree in the natural sciences or be actively seeking a degree in a related field. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to follow strict sampling protocols and be proficient in the collection of scientific data. Map reading skills, accurate interpretation of aerial photography and orienteering skills are required. Prior professional experience in the fields of fisheries, wildlife, or natural resources is highly desirable, which may include knowledge of fish and wildlife handling procedures, identification of Pacific Northwest fish and plant species, use of electrofishing equipment, and the use of traditional natural resource measurement tools.
Salary: $12.50 - $17.50 per hour plus overtime, depending on experience.
Duration: Approximately six Months (March 1-September 1, 2013), depending on project duration. Academic schedules may be accommodated.
Data Entry & GIS Technician
Duties/Description: Position is responsible for input and attribution of spatial data using ESRI ArcGIS 10.1 and MS Office software to manage geodatabases, generate map products, and produce reports. Incumbent will import, edit, and attribute various coverage layers including GPX files, shapefiles, and feature classes.
Qualifications: Applicants must have completed or be actively enrolled in a college or technical degree program in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Natural Resource or related field. Successful applicants will demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and value rigorous scientific methods. Must be proficient with current ESRI software and Microsoft Access. Demonstrated familiarity with GPS, fish biology, and fluvial geomorphology is desirable.
Salary:$12.50 - $17.50 per hour plus overtime, depending on experience.
