West Fork has partnered with Seattle City Light to design and implement a salmonid sampling strategy to investigate movement in selected tributaries of the Pend Oreille River in northeastern Washington. Backpack and bank mounted electrofishing techniques were used to capture salmonids in selected reaches of the study area. Westslope Cutthroat Trout are marked with a PIT tag. Fish are recaptured in subsequent years and detected at instream PIT tag arrays in tributaries of the Pend Oreille River. The arrays allow detection of tagged native trout species throughout the year, providing information for assessing movement of fish between tributaries on a seasonal basis. The fisheries sampling data provides a baseline for selected stream reaches where brook trout removal is being conducted.
